There are a lot of free to inexpensive Kontakt libraries out there. If you have v5, but not v6, it seems to me that the primary reason to upgrade would be to be able to use Kontakt instruments developed with v6 that may include v6 specific code. I upgraded to v6 the first time it went on sale. The Komplete synthesizers are also relatively efficient compared to Omnisphere. Kontakt has a host of optimizations that tie it to strictly sampling that makes it a better platform for sampled instruments than Omnisphere is. When I bought my new computer, the only NI instrument I installed was Kontakt 5. Omnisphere is more resource intensive but it is a hybrid synth/sampler (so it has a reason to be). If you don't have a license to any version of the full Kontakt, it's definitely worth it. Do I need Kontakt as well? Probably not, but what has “need” got to do with it? With valuable input from Dave others I decided that Omnisphere was right for me, and I have used it on many completed album tracks since, I love it. rJames Senior Member 2 Re: Omnisphere and Absynth Everyone has both. Do any fo you have both I'd like some pros and cons comparison of both if anyone could be so kind. Years ago, I was trying to decide between Kontakt and Omnisphere as my first major virtual instrument. Would I be stupid to buy Absynth when I already have Omni I love pads and evolving textures to death. So I've been content, so to speak, just upgrading over the years the individual packages (when they do their summer 50% upgrade sales).įor people just starting out, however, it's a no-brainer-save up, buy it.Every time this goes on sale I am tempted. Instead of Battery, I have Geist, Tremor, and a slew of acoustic drum libraries (including Addictive Drums 2). Last year I bought Reaktor 6 for like $100 bucks or something, maybe less, and that pretty well sealed the coffin for me on Komplete. Now it seems every year they try to tempt me with a Crossgrade price. A year or so later, I bought Guitar Rig with the Rig Kontrol. I bought Kontakt 2 about 10 years ago over Gigastudio (super glad how that worked out). Both are dependable and wonderful, but not everyone will understand what they mean. However, for me, I'm not really interested in Komplete all that much-when I started out with Native-Instruments, Komplete didn't exist. These days Komplete is a no-brainer starter package.
